Confused about noises coming from a loud water heater? Read on to find out what might be causing those noises and what to do about them.
Water heater failure can be catastrophic to a business that relies heavily on the use of hot water. Early detection can mean the difference between cold showers and happy guests, between stopped production and delicious craft beer. Two signs of water heater failure are auditory – meaning they can be heard. We’ll go over them here.
If you have a standard atmospheric water heater and you hear the sound of popcorn popping, it is the sound of water flash boiling inside super heated mineral sludge. This means your heater is probably about to fail, but is also means you need a water softener! This will prolong the life of your new equipment.
If your water heater comes with an attached blower motor, and the motor is making a lot more noise than normal it means the blower bearings are about to fail. Sometimes the blower motor is loud naturally, but if you hear the sound of rattling or tinkling or clinking metal that’s a surefire sign that you’ve got problems.
