A coil water heater (also known as an indirect water heater) can be used in combination with a boiler (often an existing boiler) to provide hot water to your hotel, apartment building, restaurant, brewery or senior living facility.
The indirect water heater works in tandem with a boiler to supply hot water. Water is heated (to a very high temp) by the boiler and then transferred, via a closed circuit coil, into the tank of the water heater. The water in the water heater is then heated quickly by the coil and voila! Your tenants, customers and guests have hot water. In this case, the water heater unit doesn’t have the ability to heat the water on it’s own, and thus relies on the heat from the boiler.
As with anything, there are pros and cons to this system. Pros include getting even more use out of that boiler, which especially in the winter, is already working to heat your building. A coil water heater equipment can have a longer lifespan than a standard water heater unit as well.
