Seasonal eating is a well-established trend in the restaurant industry, but what about seasonal dining? Many restaurants are working harder to take advantage of outdoor seating and patio options. This is a great idea for several reasons: people love eating out doors, it can expand your table space (meaning of course being able to serve more people), the patio can almost act as a separate restaurant – a place to feature specials or try out new ideas, and it gives you yet another opportunity to set yourself apart from the competition.
In places that don’t have harsh winters (or places that do but that also have lovely springs and falls) outdoor and patio dining spaces can be utilized for many months of the year or year round with the addition of a few simple climate-controlling elements. A tent or temporary wall partitions can go a long way to create both environment and atmosphere – especially when supplemented with small space heaters or even fire pits.
