Considering a tankless water heater for your hotel, restaurant, craft brewery, hair salon or apartment complex? Unfortunately, the tankless system is great for residential applications but not-so-hot when it comes to commercial use.
The tankless option is appealing due to it’s small size (about the size of a suitcase), lack of standing loss (no hot water sitting around waiting to be used) and overall energy efficiency. And it’s a great option for a seasonal cabin, or any other place where you don’t need a large volume of hot water at any one time.
However, once you move into commercial water needs the tankless option can leave you out in the cold. Or out of hot water anyway. Here’s a few reasons why…
Commercial applications have a much higher need for hot water than residential applications. The more faucets you turn on (think shower heads for example) the less pressure each of your faucets have. Also, tankless units only heat water when you need it – on demand. So when the unit isn’t on there isn’t any hot water available. This can mean random bursts of cold water coming out of the faucet when you least expect it.
While a tankless water heater has its place, we don’t think you should use them in your business!
