Food service depends on hot water.

Restaurant owners know a lot is riding on their commercial water heaters. When restaurant water heaters go down, the entire kitchen grinds to a halt. No food and no customers! For a business that depends on a steady stream of revenue to run smoothly, you need a steady stream of reliable hot water.

Keep Your Kitchen Safe and Sanitized

Do you know all the hot water temperature requirements to keep your restaurant up to code? For restaurants, the rules can vary just based on the type ware-washer you have. With a high-temp dishwasher, the wash water must be between 150-160 degrees Fahrenheit. For full sanitizing, hot water must be boosted to 180 degrees Fahrenheit, either by a separate designated booster heater — or sometimes by the dishwasher itself, if it has a built-in booster.

Why so hot? We discuss that in depth here. But generally, a dish’s surface must hit 160°F to kill germs and bacteria – and 180ºF rinse water will accomplish that. It’s also important to note that temperatures this high will burn skin, so another code requires that restaurants have mixing valves installed at all sinks, to ensure safe temperatures for hand-washing.

Cleanliness and sanitation are critical in commercial applications, especially in the food service and hospitality industry. There’s no margin for error when it comes to protecting your customers and your reputation.

Pop Quiz: What Would You Do?

Not to keep you up at night, but if you’re running a restaurant, there are a few questions that should give you pause:

  • How would your restaurant function without hot water? (Could it function at all?)
  • If your water heater dies today, who would you call?
  • Could you afford the hit to your revenue and reputation?
  • Would renting a restaurant water heater give you peace of mind

Okay, deep breath. The best way to prevent a hot water emergency is to plan ahead. Reliable Water Services is here to help you keep a continuous stream of hot water for commercial use; you can head off disaster later by thinking about the “what ifs” now.

A large restaurant kitchen is shown with stainless steel appliances and counters. Several chefs wearing white jackets and hats are cooking and preparing food.

The time it takes to find a replacement water heater can significantly hurt your business and your bottom line. If your restaurant water heater has seen better days, or if you’re starting up a new food establishment, a relationship with Reliable Water Services now can bring you peace of mind in the long term. We’ll help you find the correct water heater for a high-volume supply of hot water. We offer same-day water heater repair to ensure your restaurant’s water heater has a steady water flow.

Questions about leasing a water heater? We’re here to help! If you lease your other commercial kitchen equipment, you probably already know—renting takes away the worry. When equipment goes down, service is a simple phone call away.

Repair or Replace? Reliable Water Services is On the Case!

Without hot water, food preparation and service have to stop. The reality is that commercial water heaters eventually fail, especially when your busy kitchen counts on that heater day in and day out. It’s not so much a question of if the water heater will go down in a restaurant setting, but when.

So when your water heater goes down, one phone call sets the fix in motion. Our technicians rush to the job. They know all about your equipment and have the needed parts and tools in tow. If repairs aren’t possible, we install new equipment lightning fast. Typically, your restaurant will be up and running within hours! With our rental and service plans, your water heater is covered in hot water emergencies.

You also need to have the right amount of hot water. The Health Department standards can vary by municipality, but typically they dictate that restaurants must have access to at least 100-125 gallons of hot water per hour. While requirements can increase based on your operations, it’s essential to meet the minimum standards to stay safe.

At Reliable Water Services, we’re here to keep you up to ServSafe code. We’ll help you determine the proper sizing for optimal hot water access, even on the nights when your kitchen is slammed. Expanding? Opening another establishment? Renovating? No problem! We’ll help you figure out those sizing numbers, too! You’ll never have to worry about a lack of hot water.

We carry and service all the related water equipment you might need for your restaurant—Booster heaters for high-temp sanitizing dishwashers, recirculating pumps, water softeners, and filtration systems. We even service RTUs to keep air circulating in your establishment.

We rent commercial restaurant water heaters and related equipment throughout Wisconsin and Indiana. Here in the Midwest, commercial units need to work a little harder in the cold weather. We’ll ensure you always have the hot water you need to create delicious food and happy customers year-round.
