Water Softeners
Are you endangering your equipment with hard water? At Reliable Water Services, we carry commercial water softener systems to protect your equipment (and keep your dishes spotless)!
What is Hard Water Anyway?
What do people mean when they refer to water as “hard” or “soft”? Hardness relates to minerals in the water. Unsoftened water has at least some mineral content, measured in grains per gallon (gpg). For example, Milwaukee tap water is 5-9 gpg hard, whereas outer-lying areas like Brookfield have water between 23-34 gpg hard. In Indianapolis, the incoming water supply ranges between 12-30 gpg hard.
For your equipment, hard water means trace mineral deposits left behind. After regularly boiling water, you may have seen scales build up in a tea kettle or coffee pot. You may have had to use vinegar or another descaling agent to clean. The same scale buildup happens to your commercial equipment…on a larger scale.
Hard water also reacts with soap, forming a sticky, insoluble substance known as soap scum. Soap scum leaves behind a film on washing equipment, showers, tubs, and more. Because the minerals in water react with cleaning agents, the ability to lather and clean is reduced with hard water. In apartment complexes, hard water can degrade the plumbing. Hard minerals can cause expensive damage in industrial applications such as food manufacturing.
Water Softeners Do More than Prevent Spotty Dishes
Many of our customers appreciate the benefits of having a water softener as part of their water heating system. If you’ve used soft water in your home, you know that it can help filter out minerals found in municipal water supplies. If you want to protect equipment, a water treatment system is one of the best solutions.
Like the benefits of a home water softener, industrial water softeners protect your equipment from mineral deposits, buildup, and degradation. If you use water straight from the municipal water supply (hard water), you will likely see mineral sludge in your plumbing, water heater, and boiler. Eventually, the mineral buildup causes clogs and leads to major problems with industrial equipment.
Even items like commercial dishwashers, hoses, and faucets can clog under the effects of hard water. A water softener protects your equipment and investment with improved water quality, reduces hassle, and keeps water flowing smoothly even with heavy water usage. The added bonus of softened water is that you won’t see mineral buildup on your dishes—glasses stay crystal clear with soft water, making it a must for restaurants! We can help you choose the right commercial softeners for your business with a wide range of options to prevent the hazards of hard water buildup.
