Every gas company has an emergency phone number to report suspected gas leaks - for safety and liability purposes you need to call that number ASAP to report the smell first! They will quickly and safely send someone out with specific tools to determine the source & severity of the gas smell. They may be able to fix it right away, or they'll tell you what you need to do to resolve the issue.
